Excellent Hotel Days Inn Myrtle Beach Hotel-Myrtle Beach, Ocean Blvd, SC
The pool and river was excellent. They had a nice food court with pizza and sandwiches. The onsite store was well stocked. The room was very nicely furnished and had a great ocean view. This hotel made me feel comfortable: I had two young girls with me and they were at ease. The noise level in the halls and pools was appropriate.

Fort Hill Clemson
Fort Hill was the home of John C. Calhoun, South Carolina's pre-eminent 19th century statesman, from 1825 until his death in 1850. The antebellum plantation home, office and kitchen are furnished mostly with family artifacts. John Caldwell Calhoun's national political career spanned 40 years from 1810 to 1850. Thomas Green Clemson, Calhoun's son-in-law and founder of the University, envisioned "the preservation of the home of the illustrious man who spent his life in the public service of his country." Thomas Clemson willed that Fort Hill "shall always be open for the inspection of visitors." For more information, please call (864) 653-2030.
Old Slave Mart Museum, Charleston
Possibly the only known building used as a slave auction gallery in South Carolina still in existence, the Old Slave Mart was once part of a complex of buildings known as Ryan's Mart. The complex had a brick wall enclosed yard, a four-story building that contained a "barracoon" or slave jail, a kitchen and a dead house or morgue. Slave auctions ended here in November 1863. The Old Slave Mart Museum in Charleston has reopened to rave reviews. The museum recounts the story of Charleston’s role as an urban slave-trading center during the domestic slave trade. The Old Slave Mart Museum’s permanent exhibit speaks to the stories, the contributions and the legacies of those who shaped the outcome of the domestic slave trade. Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site, Charleston
Cannons boom. Muskets bark. Interpretive rangers in 17th century dress tend heirloom crops. They’re all part of the “new” Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site. Here a group of English settlers landed in 1670 and established what would become the birthplace of the Carolinas colony, the plantation system of the American South, and one of the continent’s first major port cities. And here the story is still told. Opened in 1970 as Charles Towne Landing State Park, the peaceful park on a marshy point off the Ashley River was rebuilt in 2006 with a sharpened focus on the site’s remarkable past. For more information, please call (843) 958-6467.
